The city of Taoyuan is renowned for the unique character and charm of its local culture. For generations, the people of this northwestern Taiwanese community have built a tradition of diversity and aesthetic sensibility. Nowhere is this tradition more apparent than in the local crafts industry. Bamboo hats, altars, woodwork and utensils for daily and ceremonial use are some of the most characteristic crafts of Taoyuan. Drawing on local culture, Taoyuan's crafts industry has evolved along with the community and reflects local lifestyles, history and culture. It embodies "the beauty of Taoyuan". This exhibition celebrates Taoyuan's unique culture by bringing together the numerous artistic styles of traditional local crafts-including wood carving, leatherwork, stone sculpture, china and embroidery-to showcase the work of the most representative craftsmen and manufacturers.
